What is Magnetic Particle Testing？
Magnetic particle flaw detection uses the interaction between the leakage magnetic field at the defect of the workpiece and the magnetic powder. It uses the difference between the magnetic permeability of the surface of the steel product and near-surface defects and the magnetic permeability of the steel, and the magnetization Afterwards, the magnetic field at the discontinuity of these materials will be distorted, forming a leakage magnetic field on the surface of the workpiece at the part of the magnetic flux leakage, thereby attracting the magnetic powder to form the magnetic powder accumulation at the defect—the magnetic trace, and showing the defect position under appropriate lighting conditions and shape.
What is the role of magnetic particle testing for crawler shoes?
Magnetic particle inspection can be used for the final inspection of track shoe products to ensure that no harmful defects will be produced on the surface of the workpiece after various processing procedures (such as welding , metal heat treatment , grinding ) . It can also be used for the inspection of track shoe semi-finished products and raw materials such as bars , billet's , forgings , castings , etc , to find the original surface defects .
During the regular maintenance of equipment , magnetic particle inspection is often used for important steel parts to find defects such as fatigue cracks at use and prevent catastrophic accidents in the continued use of equipment .
What are the advantages of magnetic particle testing for track shoe production?
The advantages of magnetic particle inspection are :
1.It is very effective against the inspection of defects such as cracks at the surface of steel materials or track shoes ;
2.The equipment and operation are relatively simple ;
3.The inspection speed is fast , and it is convenient for large-scale equipment and workpieces to be inspected on site ;
4.The inspection cost is also low .
The disadvantages are :
1.It is only applicable to ferromagnetic materials ;
2.Only the length and shape of the defect can be shown , and it is difficult to determine its depth . Usually , our tracks shoe inspection is also combined with ultrasonic testing to detect the defect depth of the track shoe .
The function of magnetic powder is as a display medium , and its types includes :
1. Black magnetic powder - the composition is ferric oxide (Fe3O4 ) , In the form of black powder , suitable for workpieces with light-colored or bright backgrounds .
2. Red magnetic powder - the composition is ferric oxide (Fe2O3 ) , which is in the form of iron red powder , suitable for workpieces with dark background .
3. Fluorescent magnetic powder - the particles of ferroferric oxide magnetic powder are coated into fluorescent substances , which can emit yellow-green fluorescence under ultraviolet radiation . It is suitable for workpieces with dark backgrounds , especially because of the color sensitivity of the human eye . Compared with other magnetic powders , the magnetic particle inspection of fluorescent magnetic powders as magnetic media has higher sensitivity .
4. White magnetic powder - there is a white substance wrapped around the ferroferric oxide magnetic powder particles , which is suitable for workpieces with darker backgrounds .
Fluorescent magnetic powder is usually used for track shoe magnetic particle flaw detection-the ferroferric oxide magnetic powder particles are coated with fluorescent substances , which can emit yellow-green fluorescence under ultraviolet radiation , which is suitable for track shoes with darker background .
