Precautions for Preventing Crawler Crane Tipping Over
Crawler cranes are heavy lifting machines widely used in construction and industrial activities. Their ability to move on uneven or unstable ground makes them particularly useful in many situations. However, operating a crawler crane requires care and attention to safety, as the risk of tipping over is significant. Here are some precautions to take to prevent crawler crane tipping over:

1. Choose a firm and level ground
The ground where the crane will operate must be strong enough to support its weight, and level enough to prevent any inclination. If necessary, perform soil testing to assess the ground's strength and stability. Avoid operating the crane on loose or wet soil.
2. Respect the load chart
Crawler cranes come with a load chart that specifies their maximum capacity and working radius. Respect these limits strictly, and avoid overloading the crane. Overloading is one of the primary causes of tipping over.
3. Use the outriggers correctly
The outriggers are the stabilizing legs of the crawler crane, which have to be deployed before any lifting operation. Ensure that they are correctly positioned and extended to the correct length, according to the load chart. Avoid placing them on soft or unstable ground.
4. Check the wind speed and direction
Wind can destabilize the crane, especially when lifting large loads. Check the wind speed and direction regularly, and stop the operation if the wind exceeds the rated limit of the crane.
5. Check the ground clearance
When moving the crane, ensure that there is enough clearance for all the parts, especially when crossing obstacles or slopes. Be aware of any potential hazards such as power lines, trees or buildings.
6. Assess the risks
Before each operation, carry out a risk assessment that considers all potential hazards and implements the appropriate control measures. Ensure that all the workers involved in the operation are informed and trained on safety procedures.
